SEAToday.com, Gaza - A 2-month-old Palestinian boy died from starvation at the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City on Friday (2/23).
The paramedics who rushed the baby to the hospital said that the baby died from acute malnutrition. He hasn’t been fed any milk for days as baby milk is “totally absent in Gaza”. Another hospital in Northern Gaza also encountered similar incident. The Head of Pediatrics at Kamal Adwan Hospital said that his team “lost a significant number of children in recent days from malnutrition”.
Just days ago, UNICEF warned of an “explosion” in child deaths in Gaza. An analysis showed a steep rise in malnutrition among children, pregnant and breastfeeding women in the Gaza strip poses grave threats to their health. The extreme condition in northern Gaza, where aid has been cut off for weeks, screening showed that 1 in 6 children under two years of age are acutely malnourished.
Israel had cut off all supplies of food, water and fuel into Gaza since October. The one entry point for humanitarian aid is also hampered by Israeli checks and protests. A World Food Programme convoy also reportedly faced gunfire during recent mission.
