SEAToday.com, Bangkok-On February 19, The Thailand Tourism and Sports Ministry is preparing to propose increased incentives for foreign filmmakers. The incentives are applied to foreign filmmakers that use Thailand in their filming locations. The objectives are to promote the country’s soft power and increase the number of tourists.
Thailand's Minister of Tourism, Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol states that the current incentives include a twenty to thirty percent reimbursement on filming budgets. Additionally, the government offers a twenty percent upfront reimbursement for films investing over 100 million baht.
On certain conditions, such as incorporating Thai elements. filming in second-tier Thai provinces and hiring Thai crew members qualifies for an additional 10 percent reimbursement.
However, the current incentive benefits are limited to an investment of 750 million baht, the ministry is now preparing to remove the regulations to add more benefits and to attract large-scale foreign filmmakers. (ANDIN/ALVIN)
