South Korea’s Opposition Leader Stabbed During Visit to Busan

SEAToday.com, Busan-On Tuesday (01/02) at 10.27 a.m. local time, South Korean opposition leader Lee Jae Myung was attacked by an unidentified man during a visit to the southeastern port city of Busan. The assailant injured Lee’s neck.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailant was a male who pretended to be one of Lee's supporters approached Lee, and asked for an autograph. The assailant then attacked him with an unidentified weapon about 20 to 30 centimeters in length. He was arrested on the spot.

Lee Jae Myung, a leader of the main opposition party, The Democratic Party was attacked during a question and answer session with the reporters after inspecting the construction site for a new airport on Busan’s Gadeok Island.

According to South Korean media, Lee was transferred to the Pusan National University Hospital about twenty minutes after the attack. He had received emergency treatment and was still conscious during the transfer.
