SEAToday.com, Jakarta - PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) or KAI Commuter will import eight new trainsets from China to address the anticipated increase in Jabodetabek Commuter Line ridership.
President Director of Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Didiek Hartantyo explained on Monday (7/1) that this decision stems from a shortfall in the train set rejuvenation (retrofit) program undertaken by PT INKA.
"(To replace) the retrofit that was not calculated before, from 19 it decreased to only 2," he said.
To compensate for this shortfall and meet the projected passenger volume of 362 million next year, KAI Commuter will import eight additional trainsets. This brings the total number of Chinese-made trainsets being imported to 11.
