SEAToday.com, Cirebon-The world of syrup in Indonesia is rife with various brands from various countries. However, make no mistake, Indonesia has original syrups that are legendary. One of them is Tjampolay syrup from Cirebon.

This proud brand of Cirebon residents is very popular in Indonesia, because of its sweet and fresh taste. However, do SEATizens know that Tjampolay is the name of a fruit? We know it better as Dutch Sawo.

Tjampolay syrup was first produced by Tan Tjek Tjiu in 1936. Initially, there were only Rozen Roos and Sour Orange flavors. Tjampolay fruit, aka Dutch Sawo, is the natural sugar base for this syrup. Apart from its delicious flavor, Dutch Sawo also bears fruit throughout the year without knowing the season.

It wasn't until the 90s that the flavors of Tjampolay syrup increased, and the most famous one to date is Pisang Susu. One of the most popular souvenirs when visiting Cirebon is Tjampolay Syrup, Pisang Susu flavor.

The habit of drinking syrup was popularised by the Dutch. They feel hot living in the tropics. Especially in Cirebon which is a coastal area, it is getting hotter, so drinking ice syrup became a popular culture at that time.
