SEAToday.com, Yogyakarta- Indonesia is located on the Ring of Fire and has 127 active volcanoes. In addition to hundreds of active volcanoes, Indonesia also has ancient mountains that are no longer active and turn into tourist attractions. One of them is the Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano in Nglanggeran Village, Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta.

Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano is located in Nglanggeran Village. This tourism village made it into the Top 100 World Sustainable Destinations by Global Green Destinations Days (GGDD) in 2018. Travelers can find natural, cultural, and educational attractions in Nglanggeran Village. Starting from the Ancient Volcano to Kampung Pitu. This ancient mountain has an altitude of 700m above sea level.

It takes about 50 minutes to an hour from the foot of the mountain to get to the top. There is also the sprawling Five Finger Mountain, not far from this tourist attraction. Visitors can also camp at Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano. The camping ground is located about 50 meters from the summit.

Kampung Pitu is located on the eastern peak of the Nglanggeran volcano. Pitu is the Javanese word for seven. As the name implies, Kampung Pitu only has seven households, no more no less.

Besides the ancient volcano, Desa Nglanggeran also offers other attractions, such as a retention basin used for livelihood farms irrigation, Kedung Kandang waterfall in the southern part of Nglanggeran volcano, and a chocolate shop named Griya Cokelat Nglanggeran.

Griya Cokelat Nglanggeran was established in 2010 as an initiative to develop chocolate in Nglanggeran. This place is still processing chocolate from local plantations. Visitors can buy lots of unique chocolate products, such as chocolate dodol, choco mix chocolate drink, and other products. (ALIF/DKD)
